The Evolution of a Personal Photography Project;
How do you photograph something that can't be seen?
When I began deaf not Deaf, I wasn't sure how to answer that question. I only knew I wanted to help people understand what it feels like to hear through cochlear implants. What followed was a creative journey of experimentation, frustration, unexpected discoveries, and ultimately a body of work that taught me as much about myself as it did about photography. Join me as I share the evolution of the project: from the first ideas to the finished images and the lessons learned along the way.

ARTIST STATEMENT:
From its early beginnings in 1969, and then taking shape more fully in 1977 during my raft trip on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon, my photography has become increasingly centered around the notion of Adventure Travel. With the advent of digital photography, I have been coming home with ever-increasing numbers of photos to curate and process. What to do with all those photos? One answer for me has been the self-contained slide show.
