Bobby Abrahamson Guest Speaker October 18, 2021 On Zoom

We are pleased to welcome Photographer Bobby Abrahamson as our guest speaker (via Zoom) on Monday, October 18 at 7:00pm.

Bobby’s presentation will feature examples of his work from throughout his 33-year career, but will focus particularly on his recently completed 10-year documentary project “North Portland Polaroids.” Over the past decade Abrahamson has photographed more than 500 strangers on the streets of St. Johns, Portland. These portraits were shot using Polaroid Type 55 large format positive / negative film, which produces both a print and a negative within a minute after snapping the picture. Each of the subjects of these photos was given the instant print in exchange for stopping and posing. Since it takes 15-20 minutes to set up and shoot a single photo with his large format view camera, by the time he gave the print back to the subject they were no longer strangers.

Bobby Abrahamson is a Portland-based photographer, photojournalist and photo educator. He has six published books, has been featured in 17 solo shows and a multitude of group exhibits in the US and Europe. His work is in the permanent collections of numerous institutions including the Portland Art Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the Museum of Contemporary Art Belgrade, the Harry Ransom Center, the Oregon Jewish Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia. His clients have included TIME, Fortune, US News & World Report, The New York Times, VICE and Wieden & Kennedy.
